Govardhan Puja also known as Annakut Puja or Annakoot Puja is an auspicious festival celebrated by the Hindus. This festival is celebrated the day after Diwali. During this puja, Govardhan Hill is worshipped. Apart from this, there is also a ritual of offering a variety of food to Lord Krishna on this day. According to the Hindu Calendar, Hindus celebrate Govardhan Puja on the Pratibha Tithi, Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. It is celebrated just a day after Diwali.

Govardhan Puja 2023: History
In India, Diwali is a five-day festival in which one day is dedicated to Goverdhan Puja. It is believed that once Indra Dev the “God of rain” got angry with the people of Braj for not worshipping him and due to this started heavy rain in Mathura. This is when Lord Krishna raised the Govardhan Hill on his finger and protected the villagers from the harsh weather conditions created by Indra Dev.
Hence, the festival of Govardhan Puja is celebrated. This is to offer gratitude to Govardhan and Lord Krishna for saving his devotees.

How to Celebrate Govardhan Puja?
On this day, a large number of pilgrims travel to worship Govardhan mountain, which is located in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. For Lord Krishna, the elderly folks who are unable to climb the mountain prepare Chhappan Bhoga Prasad.
Chappan Bhog is a collection of 56 dishes that includes savoury, sweet, and luscious foods. Offering a prasad of Chappan Bhog symbolises one’s respect for Mother Nature, or, to put it another way, one may obtain Lord Krishna’s heavenly blessings. Following the devotion of Lord Krishna, certain individuals distribute Chappan Bhog to the other devotees while also singing Govardhan Puja Bhajan.
